Taking Stock: 2016 So Far...

Mar 23 2016

With the devastating floods in December and January, combined with the forthcoming launch of Flood Re in April, it is fair to say the past few months have been extremely busy for the team here at the Know Your Flood Risk campaign.

Our chief executive, Mary Dhonau OBE, has been exceptionally busy not only updating our Homeowners Guide, which provides free advice to communities regarding flood resilience measures, but also in speaking at a number of events, including the Environment Agency's Flood & Coast Conference in Telford.

In fact, over 30 radio interviews have been conducted with various BBC and independent radio stations, in addition to live interviews with BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, Sky News, BBC News, ITN and ITV Tonight.

On top of this, Mary has been actively involved in working with Flood Re to promote the forthcoming April launch. Mary was the ‘voice of the consumer' on the Flood Re transition panel and has accompanied Mark Hoban, the Chair of Flood Re speaking at Five road show events in Cardiff, Taunton, Reading, York and Gloucester, Mary also spoke at an All Party Parliamentary Group on insurance at the House of Commons, where Mary covered flood resilient repair, Flood Re and the positive impact it will have on those deemed at high risk.

Confirms Mary: "With Flood Re about to launch, plus the Chancellor announcing a £700m boost to resilience and flood defence schemes in York, Leeds, Calder Valley, Carlisle and across Cumbria, coupled with the £5k flood resileince grants for those sadly effected by the awful winter floods, it provides a glimmer of hope to those badly affected by flooding. I've also witnessed some great examples of defence initiatives across the country being a judge at the Environment Agency's Project Excellence Awards. It's clear that communities across the country are working hard to fight flooding and we are proud to be doing our bit towards supporting those in their journey, wherever possible."
